EMR Direct and Criterions Partner to Provide Interoperability Solutions

EMR Direct partners with Criterions to make health information exchange easily accessible for providers. Specialized services work together with Criterions software to increase its interoperability, leading to efficiencies that help deliver better patient care.

The Solution: Integrated Direct and FHIR Services

Criterions implements EMR Direct’s entire Interoperability Engine product suite which includes Direct Secure Messaging, HL7 FHIR®, and OAuth as well as third party client application developer support through the HealthToGo API management platform powered by UDAP, the Unified Data Access Profiles, and HealthToGo App Studio.

Direct Secure Messaging is accessible through Criterions software and allows providers to send or receive health data that usually either originates from a patient record or is ready to be incorporated into a patient record. The DirectTrust network requires identity verification, so you can know and trust who you exchange with. Designed for HIPAA compliance and ease of use, Direct is the modern alternative to fax with the added ability to transmit structured data so information like medications and allergies can easily flow into your EHR.

EMR Direct’s HL7 FHIR services allow patient information to be accessed, using a third party app or HealthToGo, by professional and consumer users who are authorized to do so--letting health data be processed in more innovative and creative ways, empowering patients, improving engagement with their providers, and keeping them more informed about their own health. FHIR enables applications that help patients show when they’ve already completed a lab test or immunization at another facility, for example. It’s an open standard, so that third parties can develop applications once according to the standard, and reuse that software with health data from any platform.

How to Access Direct and/or HL7 FHIR Services

EMR Direct is proud to be a part of the movement to bring about improvements in healthcare delivery through better interoperability. Contact support@criterions.com to get started using Direct or FHIR services through Criterions software. A simple Direct Messaging or FHIR application form is then submitted to EMR Direct to initiate service activation; the identity of a representative from the practice will also be verified as part of the onboarding process. After your account is activated, access NPPES to list your Direct address and/or FHIR endpoint there, so you’re ready to interoperate and can receive Direct event notifications and other messages and are ready to let patients find your FHIR endpoint where they can access their data using the application of their choice.

Thousands of healthcare organizations across the country use EMR Direct’s services to communicate daily; EMR Direct’s HISP, CA, and RA services are DirectTrust and EHNAC accredited and its Direct and FHIR services are ONC certified. Learn more about EMR Direct’s products by visiting their website.
